The *no longer* low boost build project:) Updated 05/16/07

Well,

It has been a long time coming. And avoiding any catastrophies (knock on wood), the wagon's gonna get some boost.
I am going the low budget route, selectively picking up good parts for good prices. Here's the vision...

Just bought:
New cast Zetec RS turbo manifold Image

New Garrett T-25 :
Journal bearing style with a .48A/R on the compressor side and a .47A/R on the turbine side. The center section is liquid cooled and has a 1/4 NPT thread for the oil input, coolant input, and the coolant output. The oil drain is a standard garrett style two bolt. The wastegate is an adjustable.

I am shooting for a mild 4-6 psi to start with, non-intercooled. I am aiming for $1250 tuned. I just spent $560 on the turbo and manifold. That leaves me with $690 for the rest. Think I can do it ?

Well when the time comes, I'll be beggin for wrenchmen and handing out burgers and beer/pop to rig it up.
I'm thinking late fall at the earliest...sooner if the parts come along.

Steve, I'll be picking up an oil pan with those rear control arms.

I'm trying to get away with NOT rebuilding the tranny OR engine. I aleady have a B&M tranny cooler, and the compression checked out just fine 10k miles ago.

I can't believe I'm doing this...hehe

4/17/07 *Update*

Add this genuine Focus RS downpipe w/cat.

05/06/07 *Update*

Well, this update has a bit of news, specificly the direction of this project has changed.
Lately, it seems there has been alot of parts becomming available at great prices. The first indication of this was the pick up of the cams. These were not necessary to acheive the original parameters of this " low boost/budget" project. The direction this project is taking has strayed off course, and as of this update, can no longer be termed a low boost/buget build because I..
.
Just picked up a brand new FR head

To make matters worse, I have access to 9:1 forged JE's & rings. I'm not sure if I am going to pull the trigger on them....but I am very, very tempted.

*Update 05/08/07* Add a set of SVT rods to the list.....more wallet damage to come

*Update 05/16/07* Deferred on the SVT rods b/c no low comp forged pistons are available for use with them and the FR head. So no rods/pistons yet. There is news on a different turbo though  This might be a first on a Focus, but the DSM and Honda guys have been using them with great results...it is a new Holset HX30W. This is one heavy duty turbo, and flows enough air for over 350whp. Pics to follow when it arrives.

So now begs the question....when....when will the transformation begin?

Well, I do not know when it will start, but I want to unveil it for FocusFest next summer.

Stay tuned..............

Well depending on if your going intercooled or just stright charge piping, yes i think you could do it.

Here's a quick list and prices I put together a while ago:

here's a price list I did:
http://homepage.duluthmn.com/~umdivx/tu ... 20list.htm

Also just an FYI, I've got a turbo kit I might be sellin, I've got injectors, MAF's, boost controller, external waste gate, turbo, mani, down pipe, blow off valve, a few couplers, and clamps, not sure what else, its been a while since I've gone through all that I have.

But if I don't sell it, how about we boost ours together? ;)

Also just an fyi depending on how you tune it, that'll have half your budget if not more.

I would be down to help!

I'm guessing by buying a second oil pan, you are planning on tapping it? If so, dont. Tap the aluminum part above it.

I would also intercool it first. You can find an ebay intercooler for cheap.

Seems as though the gang's all here. Well that is very cool. I'll put together a needs list and keep my eyes open for deals. Remember, low budget. Good to hear from the crew.
