Is it better to go straight for a kit, like say a Vortech supercharger system, or have a custom setup put together?

SVT, eh? A kit would be easier for you. That way you don't have to worry about coming up with a good tuning solution (make sure the kit comes with it). A custom set up would require too many headaches on an SVT. Zetec, no problem, decent tuning is easier to come by. Although SCT may have a flasher available in June. If so that would make things a whole lot easier. this is just all mu opinion though.

what kind of tunnig is needed for nitrous on an svt?
