How stiff is too stiff??

So last weekend when I was replacing my second broken cat bracket I noticed that the aftermarket inserts in my rear mount were slipping. These were the urethane inserts that you could press into your exsisting aluminum mount.

So I looked at the aftermarket mounts $100.00  and decided to just modify a stock mount.

I got a new stock mount and proceeded to fill the voids in the rubber inserts with a type of two part epoxy steel filler similar to JB weld but much thicker.

I can tell you right now that I will be either modifying it yet again or simply shelling out the $100.00 for the good aftermarket mount.

It's basically like having a 100% solid motor mount now and the vibration is unbearable for daily driving, it's not bad once you're moving but off the line and anytime below 2000 it's simply horrendous.

the best way i found is drimiling the small voids in the big side a bit bigger and the small side to personall judgement, then taping one side and filling voids with windshield urathane. this is a old trick for the gran prixs dog bones, it will stiffin and alow a small amount of flex. it works great for a daily drivin car. i am dinkin with the upper mounts as we speak, the pass side is filled with fluid but it comes out and the urathane goes in very nice. i am expectin some engine vibe, but gotta pay the cost to be the boss. 8)

There are lots of different things you can use to fill the mounts... I know some people have used that windshield urethane trick but you can get polyurethane too where you do it through a similar process. Hang on I'll go find a link. I know it's not as cheap as the windshield stuff.

Ok here you go, sure it's a honda forum but I've seen it on all kinds of forums, this is just the best one I found with a quick google search :)

It lists getting the stuff at McMaster-Carr for only like 28 bucks so thats not bad.

You can get any hardness you want. I'd imagine 80A would be decent without going overboard. Most people use the 94a though and get some vibration from what I've heard.
