Help, I need repairwork on a laptop!!!

So my wife has a Gateway laptop and it stopped charging a while back.
I finally came up with the cash for a new battery and it seemed to be working but guess what? It isn't.
I had tested the charger and it was working which led me to the battery diagnosis.
After further review it appears to be the charging terminal in the laptop itself, The center pin seems a bit loose.
I don't mind working on my desktop but I don't even know how to take the laptop apart without breaking it and it's just too damn expensive to turn into a learning experience.
Anyone here know how to work on these things?

If it was mine I would rip it apart because I know enough to be dangerous, my mom and dad had there Dell worked on recently, the a/c adaptor, charging port was the culprit as well. With the Dell the whole back connector interface required replacement at a huge cost thru Dell or an authorized Dell service center at $200.00 or so. They did find a guy that did fix it for something like $50.00 and did a good and fast job I'll be happy to get you the guys name and number if you are interested.

I've repared this problem before. the center pin because desoldered from the motherboard and requires resoldering. it's not too difficult, just time consuming.
Take it apart. record all of the screw type/location desolder, clean up connections, resolder. easy peasy.

You'd think it would be easy but I already tried removing the back and it doesn't seem to want to come all the way off.
Lots of stuff seems to stay attatched, I might try it again if no one has a better idea.

I've cracked a few open. If you want, I could give it a shot, but I'd probably have to have it for a day or two to find time to get it done and back to you.

Just put an SVT emblem on it and start wrenching on it!

tie a rope to it and use it as a boat ancore it seems lately you can buy a new comp for what it cost to fix an old one.
