I want to get a CAI so bad, but I'm afraid of hydro-lock...

Bah, replacing an engine is fun. Cheap, too.

Hydro-lock very rarely happens. I've run a CAI on every car that I've had before this focus. drove them all year round, never once had hydro-lock. The only way you're gonna get it is if you're driving through big puddles or decide to take a drive through a lake or something.

I've had problems with under car washs. But never has hurt it just cuts out but clears up after awhile. So now I don't use the under car wash anymore.
PS Also there is one for sale on FF for $225 He might go lower yet.

Yeah, but you don't always get advance notice with big puddles. When mine went, I was going through a construction zone with some tight turns boxed in by concrete barriers and didn't see the water until I was right on top of it. Even then, it didn't look like that much. The fact that it very rarely happens doesn't bring back the money I spent replacing the engine and I'm sure as hell not putting that intake back on the car.
