Rear Stability Bushings????

So, I took my focus in to be serviced today and the service tech. told me I have to have my rear stability bushings replaced asap. The tech. said this is something all focus's get replaced anywhere from 45,000 to 60,000 miles. I have 51,000 miles on mine. The tech said it would cost  1,400 dollars  to get it done. He said the worn stability bushings are causing my rear tires to go forward and backward while driving, causing my car to sway in the back which makes it feel like my tires are bald or I am hydro-planing. He told me if I let it go to long, eventually the bushings themselves will break, then I "will have a real problem on my hands".

Has anyone else had this problem? Did you replace them? Ideas? Thoughts? :(

Thanks for the help.

Where were you that they told you this?

My SVT has 88,000 on the original suspension arms and bushings and it handles great. I know for a fact they'll go wel lover 100k without any issues.

hummmm, that screams BS. that price is way to high fr any bushing. from what you described mine does the same thing since 15K! i always chalked it up to the bigger tires or weight

Yeah, he seemed to be full of BS. I called the mechanic I bought my focus from just in case. He is going to look at it Wednesday afternoon. Hopefully its nothing major. Thanks for the reassurance.

He showed me what he was talking about. I told him, I had a 2004 focus wagon with 70K miles before I sold it and never had a problem with "bushings". He replied with more BS.

After a while I stopped listening and started to think about what other mods I can do to my car.

So...the bushings shouldn't give me any trouble then, right? B/C I really want to come to the cities this Sat. tomeet everyone.

Where were you told this?
I was told I need them replaced by a "Firestone" shop in Duluth here. They seemed pretty sure of the BS they were shoveling down my throat.

If the "mechanic" is smart he would have pointed out the "control blade" bushings, which are not replaceable and only available from the dealer and will cause a squirmy rear end if worn badly. It's one of those commonly overlooked parts that people just don't seem to think matters.

I'm not sure on the actual cost to replace them though.
