That's too funny. I just helped my sis-in-law pick out a "new" car and we found her a '97 LX. I used to be big into Tracer LTS's before switching to the Focus.

1997 Ford Escort LX "The Hulk"
Yep, it's green. It looks so sweet, people are "pirating" pictures of my car and trying to sell it as their own (Craigslist has been notified, fraudsters beware). This is a reliable winter car, for starters. 4 Brand New Goodyear tires, so it does very well in the snow. High mileage...150k, but mostly freeway miles. Always a dependable starter, and always runs well... doesn't burn oil or leak. Good gas mileage, 30-35mpg. Oil changes every 3000mi for the 7+ yrs I've owned it. New tires, alternator, newer front brakes (only front were needed). Some rust, not major. It does have a noisy exhaust that needs a repair... it will need new rear struts, but not immediately.
This is an LX, 2.0 engine, good working AC, power windows, power door locks. BOTTOM LINE: a reliable car in good working order at a very good price.
Comparable cars are asking for 2000, even close to 3000, so I will not be inclined to negotiate price...but if you deal in cash I may reconsider that position.
