Valve Train Chatter????

So a buddy of mine, his woman bought a 2000 ZTS with 79k miles for $5k, expensive but not that bad.

Anyways, its got an extremely loud valve train. The chatter is more noticeable than any other Zetec that I've heard (even ones with aggressive cams).

Just wonder what you all think it could be and any preventative maint. that you would recommend, I am just at a loss right now.

Change the oil to start with and if that doesn't help then he need to get the valve adjustment checked.

How much is involved with that? Know any good/reliable/reasonably priced mechanics that can do that?

my svt is doing the same, there is a tsb about valve adjusting but im not sure that the valve train is adjustable out side of replacing the dampners and roller followers.

The only adjustment is replacing the buckets/lifters with different thicknesses, It's a bunch of math to figure out which ones you need.

The only adjustment is replacing the buckets/lifters with different thicknesses, It's a bunch of math to figure out which ones you need.
