Start out by saying this is my first time being on MNFOCUS! VERY happy I heard about this!

I am a new owner (month and a half) of an svtf and I think I made a noob mistake. I took off the stock intake and put on the K&N typhoon SRI because I got it brand new for a steal ($40!) but I am pretty sure a CAI is what I was really after. Should I try and mod this stupid thing or scratch the whole thing? Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You can alway's add length to it, there are plenty of places that sell tubing and silicone clamping sleeves guess it depends on how handy you are and what is more important time or money or the experience in making something custom! Steve has a shorter custom intake on his SVTF and he has it wrapped with an insulation, there is probably a pic somewhere on here of it for some ideas.

Welcome to MNFOCUS.com!

If Steve is the guy that works at Tousley then I have already seen his setup, if I remember correctly he used the duratec battery mount also. Regarding the custom idea: I am all for making my focus custom. I just wonder if that is the BEST way to go at this. Custom is good, but I want to do it right so I don't have problems in the long run.

If you show me a pic, I might have some piping that could work for you. Or help you mod yours up. The only thing you have to worry about is heat soak. CAI you have to worry about water

yeah exactly krypto, heat soak seems to be killing me. Is hydro-lock something we really have to worry about? I am in Hugo so I am not to far from you if you wanted to take a look at it some time. No digital camera to take a pic with...

5door,

There's a picture of Steves in the photogallery area in the v.2007 thread on page 2, shows what he did to get around the heat issue.

HAHA I should have read all the posts! I see you are aware of it!

I haven't had any issues with water on my custom CAI. Just go slow thru puddles.
If you want to stop by some time, I can see what I can do.

re: grocerygetter: yeah I have seen steve's setup. I like it, its clever using that different batt mount. I really like the idea.

re: krypto: pm me and we can figure it out

Dane Cook--Waiting...haha nice....

I've head ghetto intakes, and I've never really had a problem with snow, slush or rain getting in the filters. Althogh, I've never had a filter down too close where it can get in there. I'd just cut the filter pipe down and make a alumium wall to guard against heatsoak...similar to Steeda and FocusSport intakes.

So, I decided to put my stock filter box back on, and I am going to work on an extension tube for my K&N to turn it into a CAI. Now the question is, where is the best place to route the intake too? The bottom air dam or the fender or what? Where is everybody else's located? (Dane Cook for life, "There can only be one HIGHLANDER!")
