i am not very positive if this will work, but, is it possible to use the intake cam from a escorte z-tech and install it in the exhaust side of the svt z-tech? and steve if you read this, do you know the specs for the intake cam for the escort? and the specs for the exhaust svt cam? :?

Did you eat the worm out of the bottom of a Tequila bottle or something?

I'm trying to figure out why something like this would even cross your mind.

Where are you going with this?

I thought zx2's only had vct on the exhaust? So using the intake would be like trying to use a regular zetec cam with no vct.

i know but the intake from the zx2 z motor, should work for the svt, with more lift and duration

Then slap a turbo on it and shoot a bunch of nitrous at it, who needs cams with boost and spray?

Doesnt the svt have vct on both cams? I'm trying to say you probably cant use the intake cam because it wasn't made for the vct.

Not knowing much or anything about the SVT but wouldn't the VCT be a separate component that the cam attaches to? I would assume that aftermarket cams don't have the VCT attached. Now if the Zetec cam doesn't have the proper mounting for the VCT then he either would have to scrap the VCT or mod the cam. If I remember right Foco has the SVT running gear in a ZX3 and not a "real" SVTF.

ok here we go.. the escorte has a simalier head set up as the svt, except the escorte has vct on the exhaust side, the svt is intake side. i wanna know if i take the intake came from the escorte and use it on the exhaust side of the svt motor, will it work, or will it be to much and make my pistons un happy. i have seen this done alot on saturns and othe small motors( doch motors, I.E use two intake cams) its just a thought. we are the new generation of hot roders, money is not free still, and the bone yards are full of cheap parts. i spose i can check the hollinder at the library.

Do you know what the cam lift and duration numbers are for the two? With adjustable gears do you think(or better yet know) there would be enough adjustability to tune in/out. I guess I would also want to know where the cam would be positioned with regards to start/end of stroke and opening/closing of valves. If you have the numbers you can check out the numbers on the aftermarket performance cams and see if there is anything close. I would think if you could approximate the proper overlap and start of lift then it would at least be worth a try. Of course on the other hand if the Z cam has a much larger lift then the SVT then you might get yourself into the situation of tickling your pistons with the valve. Some things to ponder while you are dreaming.

yes, i was trying to see if steve had the specs for both cams, and chances are id have to run a adj cam sprocket on the exhuast cam. oh also to add the vct on the ford motors is not a better perf thing, it is mostly for emissions it lest ford do away with the egr. but if the escort intake cam has better specs than the svtf exhaust cam then bing-bango cheap upgrade. and one step closer to burpin flames 8) euro style.
