I picked up a new JRSC. It's an older non-BBK model. I have 44lb injectors and calibrated maf.
I was thinking of picking up the CFM crank pulley. Is 6lbs of boost about what to expect?
I still have the Crower stage 1 cams (low boost pofile).
Plus, I will need a tune.
Should I stick with the black box and drive it to a tuner, or pick up an xcal with a base tune first?
I have read the black box runs "safely" rich with the stock injectors. I could set it up with the stock injectors and maf, and swap them out (yank the black box) at the tuner's for the tune (I'd just have the small cams and SVTF header w\2.5" flex\2.5" exhaust). I don't want to have to pay for the handheld tuner if it's not necessary. Thoughts?

stock boost from the jrsc is 5-6psi.HotRodWagon wrote:I picked up a new JRSC. It's an older non-BBK model. I have 44lb injectors and calibrated maf.

for the zetec the injectors you have are on the big side but should be able to be tuned. (I'm running 42 with stock maf in the svt, and no, im not pegging the maf at all).
if the dyno isnt to far you should have no problem and wont need the box. all it does it ground the injectors to wide open when in boost. as long as you dont get into boost you'll be ok. not worth hacking up your wiring for just to have to take it out.
the xcal isnt necessary.

I'd be guessing tuning to be less than 2 hours away. I also have some 38lb injectors. The CFM crank pulley is supposed to be worth 2-4 psi. I'll guess I'll end up in the 6-7 psi range.stock boost from the jrsc is 5-6psi.

Sounds good. All you'd need is a tune still.
I was thinking of picking up the CFM crank pulley. Is 6lbs of boost about what to expect?
I have one, adds about 2 pounds. With this and the BBK kit im hitting 11psi. So without the bbk, expect around 7ish....
I still have the Crower stage 1 cams (low boost pofile).
Throw em in. They won't hurt anything, if you tune for em at a local tuner, along with the kit. They are nice and mild.
Plus, I will need a tune.
Should I stick with the black box and drive it to a tuner, or pick up an xcal with a base tune first?
Find a way to trailer or tow the car to Dan at DB. He will give you a REALLY good package deal for SCT software and the tune.

Nils. How much does Dan charge for the package deal?
He's rough quoting me for two tunes (one on meth, one off) for about $350. Since, I already have SCT in my car.

Luckily after I get my wideband o2 sensor into my header, and wire up the lambda cable, tuning for me will be free.
It won't be dyno tuned, but it will have one safe ass tune I'll never worry about blowing...
If I was'nt getting mine done by Randy, I'd trust the car to DB for the tune...

You pay for what you get.
Dan is THE best ford tuner in the midwest, hands down. I'd rather pay more and get not only the power that is possible, but also have the safety in the tune to back it up.

yep, and I've been using andy for years at dynotuneusa in watertown sd. and will continue to, he's never done me bad, nor anyone else I know.Pappy wrote:goinloco1 wrote:wow, Mines getting dyno'd begining of feb. street tune and all out race tune. since I already have the predator its going to run me 150-200 max, and thats adjusting the cam gears also.

Believe me, I've used a few other tuners over the years I'd never step foot into again. you know, the ones with cars outside waiting to be repaired due to crappy tuning most of the time.
Nothing against other tuners. I've just found andy to be a very interactive guy with his customers when it comes to tuning, letting you see whats going on, asking questions, etc. Just more personalized to me.
Haven't used any around the twin cities due to the distance for me. rather trailer it 1.5 hrs than 5+ hrs...
I did check out two around sioux falls area. one was way to clean (i dont mind clean, but spotless is another story) and the other i turned around and left immediatly after he said he always did hondas but would try a ford.... umm no thanks, cars not gonna be a guinnea pig....
