After bringing this up with Randy at FS, he also mentioned MAFS position, when you start messing with that, you affect alot of air-fuel mixtures, and which could lower your IAT's, but can really richen or lean the motor and make it run and idle worse...

I definitely agree with you, with my setup my MAF stays in the same spot... I have zero experience with either intake style on a Focus so this is where I shut up haha

You do understand I'm not advocating the use of a CAI, right? I don't think anybody seeing carnage pictures from hydrolock would take that trade-off, but not everybody knows it's a potential issue. I always thought it wasn't a real issue until it happened to me. If you don't know it's an issue, then there's no reason you would not choose a CAI if it was the same price or cheaper than an SRI. It's not much more work to install and you might get slightly colder air. Again, knowing it's an issue, there's no way anybody in their right mind should choose a CAI unless they can be certain they're not going to drive in the wet.

But seriously, I am going to fab a 360 degree shield for my intake. If I don't like the final product...well then I will take the hit on the intake. If I do like though, I will offer pics.
