updated...
Also, anyone have an aftermarket deck with a USB port on it? I'm looking at hooking up a new stereo, and want to try something different with a mp3 source, and before I buy a deck, want to see if it works. Anyone up for it? Free mnfocus stickers for the winner!!

I have the alpine IVA-x001, all it has is a usb port. (i.e. no CD player) I really like not having to play other people's music in my car...o2designs wrote:updated...

Hmm. I'll have to look into that deck. So it just has a USB port? Is it on the front or rear? Care if I try to use it with my HD? What do you use with it now for music?

Well, it has the USB port on the rear, that you can connect an ipod or memory key (possibly just a hard drive, too, but I haven't tested it), as well as alpine's proprietary connector for a CD changer, and I'm 99% sure they make an adaptor so you can have just a pair of RCA inputs. It's also got a full 3 pair of preouts, front/rear/sub, another connector I'm not sure about, and a plug for steering wheel controls. I've just got the usb cable running to my glovebox for the ipod right now, and of course radio. Feel free to hunt me down and play with it, name's Karl, and I'll have the blue '04 SVT.

Well, thats what I'm planning on, is the hard drive. I'm gonna pick one up probably this week, if you don't mind, I'll bring it with and see if a HD will work with it?

Not a problem at all....just throw a few mp3s on it in a couple of folders, and we'll see if she works. You should probably bring a power inverter or something as well, I'm not sure the port on my deck will put out enough to run a hard drive.

I was going to say, what are you going to use to power the HDtgnorman wrote:Not a problem at all....just throw a few mp3s on it in a couple of folders, and we'll see if she works. Unless you have like movies or something I think a 4 or 8 GB flash drive would work well enough and wouldn't require an additional power source.
