A friend of mine told me today there's a slide hammer like attachment from Ford for the Focus axles. Just wondering if anyones heard of them or anyone has one I could borrow for a weeknd. Thanks all I appreciate the help

You can rent them for free from Checkers. They make the job quite easy- especially if you your car is more than a couple years old (i.e. rust)
Are you doing fronts or rears?
Checkers also rents (for free) the 30mm (rear) and 32mm (front) sockets you need for the axle nuts, if you don't have those.

If you have the stock diff that won't work. You only need the axle puller to get the driver's side off, i don't have the piece but it would be much easier with it.Pappy wrote:Get a 6" 3/8" extension and a hammer. Thats all you need.
Slower than your stock focus.

Since when are they making RWD foci?Erik wrote:Are you doing fronts or rears?

The slide hammer would have something similar to a 90 degree fork that slips behind the knuckle on the CV shaft. Then you give it a few good raps to get the circlip to pop out of the differential. I've never heard of one from Ford but I know they make universal style ones.

a puller....if you were to think about that for a second you will relize that will destroy a c/v axle. the best way i found is a pry bar in that flat spot on the trans use the curve in the pry bar on that spot and on the tulip to pop out the shaft on both sides, if you have a stubern driver side then you will need to drive it out through the trans like an escorte.
