I'm working on an 01 zx3 auto w/zetec. The taillamp/dash light fuse burnt out (number 32 in the box). Easy fix right? Threw a new fuse in there figuring it was worth a shot. So this fuse didn't blow, but fried the wire :o

So I've got this orange w/black wire running from the large plugs on the driver side of the trunk allllll the way up into the dash. Including into the passenger fuse box :(

So the plan of attack is to finish pulling the entire harness from in the hatch (where it plugs in) all the way up front. This is the one that runs along the footwell on the driver side. I can see at least one other wire that was damaged from the meltdown, so I want to pull it all and look it over really close. Anyone know if these are relatively universal between zx3's? As in can I find a harness out of another zx3 and will it plug and play? I can only imagine what a new harness costs from ford :o

Does anyone have any pointers? How far does this harness go? Does it make it all the way to the power distribution box under the hood? Or does it end somewhere under the dash?

If anyone wants to find me, I'll be up to my arse in focus interior panels tomorrow

BTW, this is the EXACT issue: http://forums.focaljet.com/team-pit-sto ... azard.html

Except this wire actually MELTED from the short. As well as blowing a couple fuses.

IF you grab the harness running from the trunk to the glove box, you should be fine. But since its a 01, you might want to stick with another 01 car, or a 00. In 02, they replaced the glovebox stuff, with a GEM box. Its alittle different wiring from the 00,01 compared to the 02,03,04. When you are in the hatch, in the left side on the wall, there is a grey harness under the carpet. You could unplug that there and replace the harness the rest of the way.

Yea Al will have it. Just get it out of an 00-01 car and you will be good to go.

Soooo If I unplug it in the trunk, it ends up going all the way to the glovebox? Any idea if I will need to remove the dash to get it out?

I'll call Al up today.

Al has an 02, but no 00-01's. Not sure if that would work for me.

Best bet is to pull your out and bring it down and compare. If the connections are the same, it should work.

Yea, I'm not sure if teh wiring is different, but most likely the hatch will match, I'm just not sure if the glovebox part will work...

And yes, the box will most likely need to be pulled out, but its only acouple bolts.

I'm not too worried about little stuff like removing the glove box. I'm worried i have to pull the ENTIRE dash. I hope the harness is the same so I can pick up that one from Al. I found a couple more spots where the wires were toast. One spot the wire even melted to the carpet

my guess is that after the wire repair youll fry it again. check the license lights they gunk up and cause resistance. also pull the carpet and check your main splice union under the center counsle. some had a problem with the insulation pulling away and leaving bear wire for soda and crap to get all over in there. 8)
