I can hardly believe it, but I blew up the car last night, trying to do a wot datalog. Got up to about 4K and boom. Lots of smoke, and some oil, but not much. After getting a tow home and not seeing anything on the exterior, I noticed the line from the turbo to the boost controller had come off. It must of just happened on that run, because the boost gauge which taps into the same line was working, and couldn't if that was disconnected. At this point I can't be sure what happened. Engine will not crank though - so I am guessing a rod or piston blew. I guess its a chance to put in the forged parts I had wanted to do anyway.

Anyway, I am so frustrated as this is way beyond my skills that I wanna sell the bleeping thing. Was gonna have to soon to make room for a car we will have to get soon for my daughter. I would take the first serious reasonable offer I got. Problem is, what would that be? Hard to put a value on a car like this in the first place. Don't know if I should fix it, then sell it, or sell as is? Or what the heck I should do

Advice or thoughts anyone?

Thanks

That sucks. To be honest though, motor swaps on these cars aren't all that hard.

On top of that, you have the 2.0 which is a dime a dozen, and you could probably just pickup a long block from Al for a few hundered bucks.

Absolutely DO NOT sell it blown, you will loose your ass. If anything pull the turbo kit, sell that seperate, drop a stock motor in, and then sell the car, more or less stock.

i would keep it. but if you must sell try getting rid of in stages... i dunno if that makes sense. but, try like it is, if you don't get what you want, do something to it and try again, and so on...

Honestly, its gonna be better to fix it first. Before you sell it. With it being a Saleen, its only gonna loose you more money to sell it, since the price tag on those are so weird to begin with. GL.

or have one built with a lot of aftermarket parts (FR head, larger displacement, rods and pistons, etc)

Sorry to hear this Chris. I can only imagine how pissed off you are. Nils has been through this too. You should go back and read some of those posts. Anyway, don't sell your Saleen. Build it up. Make it better. Turn up the boost :) . She's worth more keeping. Good luck.

DONT SELL IT!!!!
like I said we can fix it this winter easy enough. Just need to figure out how you want to do it. Buy forged parts and install or buy build short block, or stroker 8) Either way you'll be up and running by spring and have no worrys about breaking again. I think you'll like the upgrades and alittle more boost :)

Ok, so I fix it first. That appears the overwhelming vote. My inclination is to keep the block, keep it as a 2.0. I don't want to stray too far from the original stock, and the car only has 8400 miles, so most of it is very young. Make it as easy as possible to go back to stock if someone would want to.(I still have ALL the original parts) My thoughts are I probably gotta replace rods and pistons, so maybe upgrade those with some forged parts like some of you have said, keep the rest as is. What do ya all think of that route?

I'm with Chalon on this, build the bottom end, boost rinse and repeat. I have been there, I know how disappointing it feels. Don't sell it. You'll just end up missing it. Look at those that have sold off their Focus, Cleanzx3, Flea for example. Cleanzx3 bought another one and Flea just needs a slight teasing before he is driving another one.

I have well over 6K into my engine and tranny, there is no way I would sell mine. Even with my current Firebird obsession.
Slower than your stock focus.

Agreed, it totally sucks ass right now.

Look at the bright side though, it was the end of the driving season at least, when I popped mine it was the start of June (Now that sucked ass....).

Plus, it is great to get it built up and better than before.
