true but .3 of a liter aint gonna make a differance. if the end resulte is more displacment and power, then swapping in a 2.3 from a speed three would reward with overall perf. taking a 2.3 from a ST and boosting still wont have the reliability and performace a simple,yet expensive speed swap. plus with the speed engine you get all the goods and almost non of the bads.KRYPTO wrote:stoked motors create more torque then non stroked

How are you going to control the cam timing? Why wouldn't a speed 3 motor need to be tuned, when swapped into a focus? I dont think 2.3 vs 2.0 will make that much of a difference on a boosted motor. He already said cost was a issue, so I was making him feel better about keeping the 2.0.
Was is the budget anyways? We all want you to get a 2.5 shortblock, and a bigger turbo. Or Put a stock 2.0 back in, sell the turbo kit, and car, then buy a EVO.

Thats the weak link in the SVT motor when you get into the 350 plus WHP range, the pistons let go.
However, there have been several SVT's on stock internals in that 350 WHP range dependably.

Well, I'm trying to keep this project under $3500. That's my upper limit. Under 3K would be even better. I just bought a cabin cruiser in September, so I don't know how much leeway I have left with the Mrs, LOL.

if you take the pcm,harness,engine harness, the car is then modified to think of its self as a speed three, its just a machine. for the svt swap, i needed to remove the inner car harness( i cut at the fuel pump and soldiered the svt from there) and the engine bay harness, replaced with the svt harness and used 80% of the modules going back in( i oppted for no stupid abs aor trackshon cuntrull) to do this on the focus to mazds speed would be easy,not cheap, but easy. the mazda and focus share the same c30 plat form, so the harness and parts are interchangeable, just like legos, you just need to know what parts are needed for the job. this is the true esscence of hot roding( they call it tuning cus it sounds smarter) find a good deal on a smoked car, steal the harness, the engine, the trans, all the mounts and axles and your 75% there.....baby making me crazy, shit son, its the lack of sleep that makes me crazyCleanZX3 wrote:How are you going to control the cam timing? Ok, update time. The funds are in, spring is coming, I need to make a decision. Now I know how we all feel about Tom, but he does have what appears to be a good deal. Here is a 2.3 off his site. What do you all think of it? Or if anyone has another idea, let me hear it. I do not want to do any Mazda type swap. Basically looking for a built 2.3, or an old 2.3 and then some upgraded parts, plus a shop to do the machining, and to put the pistons and crank in

They can't come close to that. Just the pistons rods and bearings alone would be more than that, let alone having it all assembled in a block. I can't seem to find any other option that comes even close to that for the price. I'm really stuck here i guess.
