I know I've talked to a few before about this, but it still gets me. I really want to pick up a c/f hatch, but I keep hearing that they have a cracking issue. Is the issue related to the weight of the window dropping through itself? Or is it the weight of the window causing the struts to crack? Or something else? Anyone with experiance or thoughts on this would be helpful. Thanks

They are crap. The design is horrible. They crack all over. Don't waste the money.

really? that bad? i wanted one. what if you just put in the window with no wiper motor or latch assembly? i guess that question was, is it the weight of all the shit in on and around the hatch?
A friend asked me if I wanted a frozen banana, I said "No, but I want a regular banana later, so Yeah."

Thats what I was thinking about doing when I got the engine and other things all done with. Come the time to the cf hatch I wasn't going to put the glass/wiper arm in, I was simply going to have the rear window done in Plexi, which would probably help the weight problem and prevent cracking for a while.

My thoughts exactly. thats why I keep asking on where it cracks and why? because if its the weight of the accesories, then thats no problem. they wont be there.
Oh, and good to hear from ya focinite, haven't seen ya in a while. Hows the car runnin?

car runns like a rapped ape!! and yeah if going with a non steel hatch it would be wise to use polycorbon windows, hell the rear sail windows are heavy as shit, and a less agressive prop/strut. the ones ive seen crack at the strut/prop mounts and at the hinge mounts. the fiber is too thin in these areas to handle a lot of torsion. if i were to do a full fiber panal as such, id leave the steel inner structure and skin it in carbon, that way all the mounts are steal and you still lose like 75% of the weight. 8)

What cop is gonna pop out and give you a ticket for your rear window? It would be easy to get away with it. you just won't have rear defrost, but since you don't run CF in the winter it wouldn't be a problem.
