Last night after I left work my car would not idle. It jumped to 3,500rpms every time I pushed in the clutch or left it in nuetral. Shut it off three times and no change on my way to last nights focus meet. On the last stop I ended up breacking off that plastic cover over the throtlebody and played with it a little. Got it to drop to near 950 but it was erratic. As soon as I got back into traffic my check engine light came on. I continued on to the meet were Eleanor had a trouble code reader with them. Pluged it in and nothing. Revs were hanging at 2500 now. Went in to eat came back out and started the car revs droped to an erratic 950 again. As soon as I left it jumped back up to 2500.

Let the car sit overnight and disconnected the battery and pulled out the throtlebody to clean it. While doing this I noticed two things. One theres a large pool of oil in the bottom of the intake manifold. Two my battery was corroded so bad its the worst I've ever seen. Is there any problem with either of these two and is there a way to fix it?

Back to the original problem of high revs in nuetral. After I put everything back to gether its all good again. Idles perfict and the check engine light disipeared so no major issues there. I'm at 58K miles and have had zero problems with this car, so this is the first issue I've had. What the heck happened last night that it would do this?

Pics fixed.

I had nothing this morning to take care of it. I'm picking up some coke on the way home to clean it all up. And get some electrode grease to lube it up. Hopefuly that works.

Coke????

Try baking soda and water, it neutralizes the acids and doesn't leave a sticky mess.

You can get some nice neat terminal protectors at most parts stores, they work great.

I'm with steve. Mix baking soda and water together and dribble it on the terminals, it'll take the crap right off.

Do the 2.3's have the recirc like the 2.0s do. Where the vlave cover spits dirty oil back into the motor through the intake? If so, you finding oil in your manifold is normal. Wipe it out if you want, but it isn't going to affect anything.

My guess would be in the cold weather your throttle body could have just a minimal amount of moisture the froze up around the the lip of it that wasn't letting the throttle plate close completely.

Do you have a garage? If it sat in one all night and now works again that would make sense. Seeing how I doubt your car sits in a garage at work.
