I lack education in cars...so I need your help on here. One of my friends suggested switching the engines out on my cars. He thinks I can take the engine from the '95 Mercury Sable and switch it with the '08 focus. I know I'd have to get a new tranny if i could do it, but is it a goos idea? the sable engine is a V6, 3.0 Liter and has around 75k on it. The focus engine is the little 2.0 liter with around 13k on it. Is it even an option? would it be a good idea? I have to get a new tranny in the 08 anyway... ifgure ill get it replaced under the warranty then prolly sell it and pay the difference for a better tranny. Thoughts on this PLEASE

First off it would be Federally illegal to do (not that anyone really cares though, just so you know is all).

#2 the wiring harness's for the engine will not match up. So that would require someone to make a new harness for the car or to pull the harness from the Sable and use it also (while separating the body harness from the engine harness).

Basically your talking a lot of work and for very little gain. The 3.0 isn't the best engine in the world to begin with. The 3.0 or 3.2 from the SHO's would be a better option and has been done years back to an older focus. Stick with what you have and if it's not up to the power level you wish it was maybe look into some form of forced induction or a few bolt on parts and cams.

The Sable engine is a 3.0 DOHC right?

I don't think a '95 vintage engine would be your best choice and it'd be a massive amount of work to do it.

Just buy a Focus Sport turbo kit for your car and be done with it, way cheaper and easier than the 3.0 swap.

no son, the 95 had a 3.o volcon or the big dawg 3.8. why any one wants a generator engine in a car is beyond me.

Yep, you're right. '96 was the first year DOHC 3.0 Sable.

The pushrod 3.0 in the '95 was a fine engine for dragging old ladies to church on Sundays but it's about as far as you can get from anything you'd want to go to the trouble of doing an engine swap with.

To me that seems like a lot of work, and you'd be replacing a fairly new engine with a much older one. I concur with above, go with the focus sport turbo kit. I've got one. It is quite nice.
Let's go boating.

Sorry for side tracking, but how do you destroy an engine and tranny in a year?

I used to have a Taurus with the pushrod 3.0 and while Steve is right it will get you from point A to point B, it's not what I'd call a performance monster. Given that is in a heaver sedan but I still don't think there would be that many benefits to reap. As the others have said, slap a turbo on and call it a day. The whistle and chirps from the blow off valve will add much more to the cool factor than saying "it's a V6".
