I ran across someone selling a zetec head. It's basically rebuilt, shaved .035 (+.5 compression bump), chambers cc'd, exhaust ports polished, FR oversized valves, high lift springs/retainers, and crower stage 2 cams installed (correct buckets installed). The head has less than 100 miles on it. The guy is asking for $650. Obviously the parts are worth the price and the machine work has value too. $650 sounds fair. Is this too much, just about right, or not enough (ie..a good deal)?

How does the price compare to the retail market? Have you checked out the larger Foci parts dealers to see what a refurbed/upgraded head costs?HotRodWagon wrote:I ran across someone selling a zetec head. I have seen rebuilt stock heads go fo $300. This is looking like a pretty fair deal.grocerygetter wrote:How does the price compare to the retail market? Looking out on the net just because I am curious about it prices vary a bit but something similar to what you are describing I have found that the labor on the head to be within the range of $800 to $2700 (the last being on a Subaru Legacy GT, and of course they have two heads instead of one). The port and valve jobs were being sold as a "street" up to "stage 2" performance work.HotRodWagon wrote:I have seen rebuilt stock heads go fo $300. I would say that for the price IF the machine and bench work that was done is quality work its worth it, if not you have a bunch of performance parts bolted to a boat anchor.
